Only cinema can solve this.

At a party one of my friend wearing a kho(traditional dress worn by Sikkimese women) was encountered with obvious questions about her attire as most of us were oblivious of the dress.I had little knowledge (thanks to my Sikkim trip)so I glibbed when someone asked her.still she looked a bit despondent. But this ignorance of people was obvious.as no news we get to know about northeastern states except the not so often headlines.Unlike my friend I being a north Indian enjoy the limelight of Bollywood films(as most are made on us,our culture, tradition and language esp slangs are flaunted in films earning some 100crores!!).Bollywood celebrates festival's of various states and we adapt them so quickly and eagerly that even locals feel astonished(who can forget dandia garba night celebrations) but why we are so bird brained about northeastern states.may be because we do not hear any news headlines for them (only when some student is beaten or some girl is raped).suddenly news channels popup with panel discussion and end up in void arguments.some of us(much vigilant one!! This does not mean rest r not.)go out in a candle march and rest of us while watching loud argumentative session on TV remorse about the hapless scenario in country and switch the channel to some music one.now when all revolves around TV sets I feel solution lies within the wonder box itself. Tv serials,songs,ad films can make northeastern faces as common as we think ours is(many daily soaps are based on northern states and its culture infact sarees become so famous after being worn by some tv bahu!).when these faces will become common in our living rooms they will no more be differnt or alienated.northeastern cinema should be promoted(kapil sharma can call some northeatern artists to his show and promote their films).some cartoon character should be introduced from Northeast(kids never let u change the channel when they are watching their favourite one!).this will introduce our kids to a new friend and they will get to know the culture and life of north east and thus become acquainted to the faces and develop the feeling of oneness.
